Applying scientific and technological achievements into production has played an important role in RALACO’s success. The company annually spends two percent of total revenues for research and development activities, including investment in science and technology. The company has focused on investing in modern production lines to develop high-performance and power-saving light sources. In particular, in 2011, the company invested in Japan’s Sodalime glass furnace. The Sodalime glass furnace increased glass cooking performance from 25 percent to 90 percent, contributing to reducing power consumption from 250 liters of oil per tonne of glass to 145 liters of oil per tonne.

RALACO decided to establish the research and development center in 2011. Together with a series of cooperation programs with universities and research institutes throughout the country, the center has successfully produced many products such as spectrum fluorescent powder. In particular, the center conducted a research in terms of recycling spectrum fluorescent powder from broken products. This research has helped the company save tens of billions of Vietnamese dong per year and reduced waste.

Successful research has created a motivation for the company to continue investing in science and technology. In 2012, the company innovated technology for glass furnaces, raising capacity to 22 tonnes of glass per day and achieving production capacity of 11.5 million of products per year. In addition, RALACO also has invested in new production lines, contributing to improving productivity and product quality.

2013 marked RALACO’s major achievement in successfully implementing the project on research and technological innovation for high quality compact fluorescent bulbs with a life-span of up to 10,000 hours. The project was one of 60 projects in Phase 1 (2009-2013) of the Innovation Partnership Program between Finland and Vietnam deployed throughout the country and was one of 11 outstanding projects to receive an award from the Innovation Partnership Program.

In the 2013-2015 period, the Ministry of Science and Technology has provided a budget for RALACO to conduct an agricultural lighting project. Rang Dong’s research and development center has focused on manufacturing light sources dedicated to the agricultural sector. In addition, the center has adopted solutions to design lighting systems for crops in greenhouses and farms with the aim of providing proper lighting for the growth and development of crops, contributing to improving productivity and reducing power consumption.

Together with well-considered investment for science and technology, the company has many high performance products for consumers such as compact fluorescent bulbs, LED bulbs, fluorescent bulbs, incandescent bulbs and civil work lighting products. Nguyen Doan Thang said that the company will continue applying advanced technology into production, contributing to becoming the leading company in the field of light source and lighting equipment.
